In 1910, a woman named Ines Rosales began making Olive Oil Tortas (tortas de aceite) by hand and selling them at the train station in Seville, Spain. Soon, she could not keep up with the demand and she decided to employ women from the local village she came from to assist her in producing these delicate and crisp treats. She used local ingredients, including extra virgin olive oil and unbleached wheat flour. In a short period of time, this Andalusian specialty became known and enjoyed throughout Spain.
Today, the tradition continues. Ines Rosales Tortas are still made by hand with the same recipe Ines Rosales created over one hundred years ago. Women from the local village are still employed to hand-shape the tortas that are made in small batches.
Ines Rosales Olive Oil Tortas are unique for two reasons - firstly because they are handmade, which gives these timeless products an authentic and inimitable touch and secondly because they are prepared using only natural and healthy ingredients, such as 100% Premium Quality Virgin Olive Oil.
Tortas Ines rosales are 100% natural flat, circular cakes, about 12 centimeters (5 inches) in diameter made with wheat flour, extra virgin olive oil and aromatic spices. Ines Rosales Original Olive Oil Tortas is somewhere between sweet and savoury, which a hint of aniseed, with the Tortas made to exactly the same recipe that Inés Rosales revived in 1910.
